Wincanton Childcare
The Wincanton Early Years Centre is a privately owned childcare centre based in the historic town of Wincanton, Somerset. Having previously been based at The Balsam Centre for 10 years, The Balsam Nursery has operated from this site since August 2019 in larger, more flexible premises.
What we do
At our Wincanton Nursery and Pre-School we celebrate the fact that all children are unique and have a diverse set of needs, preferences, and learning styles. All the staff are dedicated to providing an environment that treat children as individuals.
Child-Led Learning
With a mixture of free play and planned activities we follow the child’s lead at all times, giving them the freedom to take their learning in whatever direction they choose.
Tapestry Software
We use the latetst software to record, monitor, and share your child’s progress
Tailored Activity Plan
Through regular reviews and observations each child has a tailored activity plan that is appropriate for their ability and style of learning.
School Transition
To prepare your child for school, we have English and Mathematics programmes for pre-school children as well as transition planning with local reception teachers.
EYFS
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is at the heart of our setting. All our planning and observations are carefully linked to the EYFS for all children aged five and under.

Meet the Wincanton Team
Our team are all highly dedicated and trained to a high level. Among the staff are a qualified Teacher (QTS), qualified Paediatric Nursery Nurse and 3 other degree qualified Early Years professionals. Parent’s and carers can also be reassured by the fact that all staff have a Paediatric First Aid qualification. Children’s safety is closely monitored by our own Lead Safeguarding Officer.

The Wincanton Early Years Centre is situated within a privately owned building based in the historic town of Wincanton, Somerset. Situated just off the A303, the centre is fully equipped with interactive learning tools, games and toys.
